Has The Fat Lady Sung?

An anonymous commenter has informed us that earlier today, Howrey's partners voted for dissolution.  Can anyone confirm?

  1. Yes. I have heard the same. Going to wind down early next with some partners moving over to Winston in the next few days.

  4. I wonder if the locked door will come with a paycheck?

  5. At the partner meeting last Friday, Ruyak announced the firm was dissolving.

  6. @10:56-- did they announce it to the non-partners?

  7. I realize this is an unfashionable question, but what about of counsel, associates, and staff? Any word on any provision for their fates, or any big groups going to anyplace in particular?

  8. All part of the Plan. Don't be so impatient. Everything is fine now that our costs are so much reduced.

  9. I know there are still at least 2 different groups in Washington still looking and considering other offers.

  10. That would be the very first time that Howrey's management let the partners vote on anything. History is made!

  11. Was it a vote or did Ruyak decide to lock the door? I hear Bob is open the DC office of Brutus, Judas & Cassius.

  12. The guys on top are intimidating the other partners to do the deal. Winston took care of a few select rainmakers and the offers for the rest are unusually weak.

  13. There’s an element of self-denial as personal responsibility for professional choices is the bottom line. Following leaders without accountability is a big risk. When it’s too good to be true – it isn’t. Simply being a “good lawyer” doesn’t equate to how one meets their fiduciary duties as part of law firm management. That issue is likely to be decided in court and the firms that open their doors to the few who may have disregarded those duties should be aware of what happened here.

  14. LegalWeek is reporting that the dissolution vote will occur next week. I am shocked, shocked that the commenters here have turned out to be full of shit once again.

  15. Matt (er, 1:36), you do realize that being off by a few days is hardly material inaccuracy.

  16. Hello, 1:36. If you have information that's useful, share it. If all you want to do is hold on to the information and correct others for being wrong, I feel sorry for you and the people who work for you.

  17. STOP with the Judas comments - yes, I may be going down on a sinking ship but Bob Ruyak as been a supporter/protector of the staff. The "management" including Matt Wolf has always thought that staff was indispensible. Let's cut the staff so that we can keep our salaries - let's cut all benefits - let's screw those who have supported us for many years just so that we can have a few more dollars in our pockets. I hope this was all worth it to you the money grubbers - blood sucking jerks that we have all run this firm into the ground. I'm pretty sure that Winston Strawn will take care of you exactly the way Howrey did (not). Good luck to you all in your future endevors - hope you make the big bucks.

  18. I assume you meant "dispensible."

  19. I don't understand 10:14. Ruyak and the management committee were the great protectors of the staff? What? That's complete BS. Howrey staff salaries always were below market. Who do you think made that decision?
