Commenters are reporting that Winston has rescinded every DC offer. And Boland is out to Baker Botts.
Which means that the only substantial piece of Howrey moving to Winston is the Houston office. I have to ask: why? Everyone else ran from Winston because they were offered too little money, had conflicts, or were just totally creeped out by the way this thing was going down. Why is Houston hanging on? No better options? Lack of foresight? Just a way for the fairly senior partners there to ride off into the sunset in a way that they were supposed to when Howrey & Simon merged with Arnold White & Durkee?
Any other news? Thoughts? Confusion?
If it has to be chalked up to one thing: it can't be overemphasized how creepy W&S people are to deal with - so many aborted looks, shifty eyes, fake smiles, and lingering handshakes that by the time the conversation is over you feel a bit like you've been groped(and those were the women!) Additionally, I think a lot of people were turned off by some of the political viewpoints associated with the organization.
ReplyDeleteOh,Dear, Sean, still blaming others, perhaps, female sib, such a sad story, as well, great leader, after the dear leader.
ReplyDelete@10:20; are you drunk?
ReplyDeleteIs Sean undressed publicly. It would be about time! Quite a history there.
ReplyDelete'Twas the night before Christmas...
ReplyDeleteI'll drink to that. - Sean
ReplyDeleteWatch out Baker Botts! Law firm number five for Mr. Boland.
ReplyDeleteThis is directed to the owner of "It's Howrey Doody Time"
ReplyDeleteWhen this is all I think you should get a compilation of the news and comments from the past few months printed up and sell commemorative editions to former partner and employees of Howrey. People will like to reminisce about the downfall of a once proud firm and how it slowly dragged on for months. You could even include special pages (there would be about 3 total) when there was actual communication from someone at Howrey.
I would buy a copy.
Me too
ReplyDeleteZombies walk the halls at Winston Strawn. Thank God the deal fell through. This should be a day of celebration for associates and staff at Howrey. I know that sounds callous, but it's true. You will find better situations. The DC Howrey office at the "prestigious" Warner Building was actually an incredibly oppressive space. The morale has always been low there. The morale at Winston: even lower. So! New beginnings for everyone. You will see: this is a blessing in disguise.
ReplyDeleteI do feel a lot of concern and sympathy for some of the older partners who trusted management, though. They are close to retirement age & have few options. They were good lawyers and it's wrong that they should face so much uncertainty after dedicating years to Howrey. They are also probably going to lose hundreds of thousands in capital contributions.
What is going to happen to the staff attys in DC?
